Deckhand Training

The Deckhand Training program will prepare participants with the skills and tools needed for entry-level deckhand positions. The participants that enroll and complete the training will learn to launch, dock, repair, and maintain ships; be prepared in maritime safety procedures and basic safety training that will enable them to work successfully and safely in the maritime industry. Training includes First Aid with CPR Certification and Basic Seamanship with Sea Survival. This training will also include a review of the labor market data, career and college pathways and an in-depth review of the application process of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC.)

This program’s start date is scheduled to start March of 2024 and will have additional sessions to following in the Summer & Fall Semesters of 2024.

Eligibility: 18 years old and over and must be able to provide ID. Must be eligible to work in the US and be able to provide proof. HS diploma/GED required. Must apply for their MMC- Merchant Mariner Credential and TWIC card. Must be able to submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident/incident testing. Able to pass U.S Coast Guard Physical Requirements.
