The Center for Economic and Workforce Development is having another Open House on Monday, August 25th and Wednesday, August 27th at Kingsborough Community College, Call 718.368.4637 speak with a CEWD representative about signing up for a session. Refreshments will be served!

Are you interested in a career in the food industry? Maybe a career as a Community Health Worker? At this open house, you’ll get information about (and even sign up for!) our affordable career training programs, CUNY CareerPATH and the Northeast Resiliency Consortium. In addition to career-specific training, our programs offer FREE supportive services including career advice, resume and cover letter assistance, job placement assistance, academic advisement and so much more! 

Training Programs for Fall of 2014:

Food Service Upgrade Training Program $35
This program will prepare you to earn nationally recognized certificates in food safety and sanitation, including the required by the NYC  Department of Health and Mental Hygiene including the National Restaurant Association Servsafe Certification Exam and The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Food Protection Certificate Exam. For one low program fee of $35 we provide the Instructional books, testing materials and manuals as well as scheduling of the exam with the NYC Health Academy.

Culinary Arts Certificate Training Program $100
Prepare for a career in the vibrant NYC restaurant industry! Our training provides students with hands-on Food Preparation and the skills to earn state and nationally recognized certificates in Food Safety and Food Production. Students will be introduced to key components of the Food Service Industry, including fundamental cooking terminology, techniques and theories, taught by professional chefs in KCC’s state-of-the-art demonstration kitchens. Participants who successfully complete this program will earnNRAEF Servsafe, NYC Department of Health Food Handlers Certificate and the Food Safety and Sanitation Certification. Credits earned in this training program can be applied to a Culinary Arts A.A.S. (Associate in Applied Science) at Kingsborough.

Program fees include instructional and testing materials, manuals and scheduling of the exam with the NYC Health Academy.

Beverage Management Certificate Training Program $100
Prepare for a career in the fast paced NYC bars, restaurants and food service establishments—learn by doing! Students will gain hands-on training in food safety, beverage service, menu design, proper wait staff service and other skills. Individuals in this field work in restaurants/bars, catering/banquet halls and customer service establishments. Participants who successfully complete this program will earn NRAEF Customer Service Certification andNRAEF Servsafe Alcohol Certification. Credits earned can be applied to a Culinary Arts A.A.S. (Associate in Applied Science) at Kingsborough.

Program fees include instructional and testing materials, manuals and scheduling of the exam with the NYC Health Academy.

Community Health Worker (CHW) $100
Prepare for a career in healthcare with our CHW training program which provides un- and under-employed New Yorkers with the opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of their immediate community. CHW students are introduced to a variety of health-related themes and prepares them for positions in outreach, education and advocacy. Relevant themes include understanding: the relationship between health and human behavior, the role of health risk behaviors and management, disease prevention and how lifestyle, attitude and behavior changes affects the health of individuals.

Program fee includes all certification exams and instructional materials.
