Intro to Urban Vegetable Gardening
Tuesdays, 5:30pm-8:30pm, September 29-November 17
$100 + $15 materials fee + $25 registration fee
This course covers all of the basics of urban gardening from soil to seed to table. Deepen your understanding of growing edible crops, starting plants from seed, pest management, soil science, and more at KCC Urban Farm. Learn basic skills such as soil conditioning, crop planning, composting, planting, and harvesting to get on your way to producing your own fresh herbs, greens, fruits, and vegetables. This course also covers finding land for gardening in NYC and building a garden from scratch.
Gardening with Kids
Saturdays, 9:45am-11:45am, September 12 and October 3
$50 per child + $25 registration fee + $15 materials fee
Adult and child are invited to a hands on learning experience at the KCC Urban Farm. Students will learn what plants need to grow, how and when to sow seeds, plant care and harvesting. Locating and designing a space to garden and tips and tricks of gardening with kids will also be covered
Urban Agriculture-Focused Carpentry
Saturdays 10:00 am – 4:00pm, Sep 26 and Oct 3
$100 + $25 materials fee + $25 registration fee
This course is beginner carpentry for the Do-It-Yourselfer with a focus on exterior small wood projects for urban farming to home gardening. We will explain and use hand and power tools; discuss various wood species and their properties to make good selections; and we will plan, design and construct (2) small wood project.
