FALL 2014
Intro to Organic Vegetable Gardening
Tuesdays, 5:30-8:30pm, September 9 – October 28, 2014
Course code: NHB 08
$100 + $15 materials fee

This course covers all of the basics of urban gardening from soil to seed to table. Learn how to grow edible crops organically, start plants from seed, manage pests, and more at KCC Urban Farm. Students will gain skills in soil conditioning, crop planning, composting, planting, and harvesting to get on their way to producing their own fresh herbs, greens, fruits, and vegetables. This course also covers finding land for gardening in NYC and building a garden from scratch.

Advanced Organic Vegetable Gardening
Saturdays, 11am-2pm, September 13 – November 1, 2014
Course code: NHB 60
$100 + $15 materials fee

Prepare yourself for the 2015 growing season this fall at KCC Urban Farm. This class is for students who have taken Intro to Vegetable Gardening or who have some experience gardening already. Class will be a hands-on immersion into growing food organically, with lots of hands-on practice at KCC Urban Farm and communal space to grow your own fresh produce. We will go deeper into soil science, propagation, crop planning, plant care, harvesting, pest management, and botany, leaving students confident and well-equipped to grow small-scale vegetable gardens. This course will also cover season-extension and seed-saving.

SUMMER 2014
“Hay” Lets Get Cooking! Farm-to-Table at Home: A Series of Seasonal Soups, Salads, and Breads
Thursdays, 6-9:30pm
August 7, 14, 21 AND/OR 28
Registration options: You can take 1, 2, 3 or all 4 sessions.
$20 tuition + $20 materials fee per session

Join us in making some of summer’s tastiest meals, made with produce sourced locally from KCC Urban Farm. Learning in each class will be by doing a hands-on approach, incorporating quick and easy tips and techniques to empower you in “food creation”. At the end of each class we will feast on our creations.

WINTER 2014
Grow Vegetables from Seed

Wed., March 12, 6-8:30pm AND Sat., March 22, 11am-3pm

Learn the ins and outs of growing edible crops from seed. This two-day
course will include seed science, pest management, equipment, and
maintenance to successfully carry your crops through the process of
germination.

Urban Agriculture-Focused Carpentry
$100
Sat. & Sun., 10am-4pm
Jan. 18 & 19 OR Feb 8 and 9

Note: This class is held off campus.
Carpentry is not only for men. Now everyone can learn the basics of carpentry as it relates to farm and garden structures, and in a unique class environment. Prepare for the spring without fear of structural obstacles while empowering yourself to use new tools. This course will be geared towards those who have no experience but it is also recommended for people who want to brush up on techniques and brainstorm ideas with us.

This carpentry class will be conducted by EcoStation: NY at Bushwick Campus High School: 400 Irving Avenue in Brooklyn.
Materials fee: $ 25

your own garden for next year. This course also covers finding land for
gardening in NYC and building a garden from scratch.
