In late 2013, Kingsborough Community College, in collaboration with seven east coast colleges, was awarded a Department of Labor Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (DOL TAACCCT) grant. Led by Passaic County (NJ) Community College, The Northeast Resiliency Consortium (NRC), with Atlantic Cape (NJ), Bunker Hill (MA), Capital (CT), Housatonic (MA), Kingsborough (NY), and LaGuardia (NY) Community Colleges, in partnership with Achieving the Dream and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, will prepare trade-impacted workers, veterans and other individuals for employment and career advancement in three key high-growth sectors (health care, information technology and environmental technologies) that play critical roles in times of crisis.
The Office of Continuing Education (OCE) and the Center for Economic and Workforce Development (CEWD) at Kingsborough Community College will provide training for health care workers, culinary arts professionals, and maritime deckhand workers who play critical roles in times of crisis.
Programs included: Community Healthcare Worker (CHW), Culinary Arts, Food Service Upgrade, Deckhand Training, Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), EMT/Paramedic, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Eligible students were qualified to receive enhanced services through NRC at no cost. These services included: employment, job placement and retention services; college enrollment assistance; case management services; and access to NRC’s textbook lending library.
