Marine Technician Apprenticeship Program (MTAP)

Kingsborough’s Maritime Technician Apprenticeship Program (MTAP) is a free four year program for students interested in becoming a marine mechanic or in working in the Maritime Industry, where you’ll get hands-on experience working alongside a skilled mentor as a paid employee! In four years, you’ll earn an associate in applied science degree (A.A.S.) in maritime technology and the title of journeyman from the NYS Department of Labor! MTAP consists of coursework and hands-on maritime training in diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, welding, vessel systems, marina operations, basic boat handling and more.

Eligibility: 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or equivalent, legally able work in the United States, clean driver’s license and can provide your own transportation, and physically able to do the job. Must take and pass the TABE 9th grade level Mathematics and Reading Comprehension and enroll in Kingsborough Community Colleges Maritime Technology A.A.S. degree during the program. Drug testing may be required and is tested randomly.

Benefits: Free Tuition and a job so you can earn while you learn! Job placement students have the ability to earn an Applied Science Degree (A.A.S) in Maritime Technology and the title of Journeyman from the New York State Department of Labor.
