KCC Urban Farm Class Bed Applications

We are accepting class bed applications for Spring 2019!

A limited number of class beds (4’x8’ raised beds) are available at KCC Urban Farm for faculty/staff who would like to use them for curricular and/or research purposes. Class beds are not for personal use – they are to be used for instruction and/or research only. We are happy to collaborate with all academic programs to create an enriching experience for students. 

If you are interested in having a class bed for the Spring 2019 semester, please use the google form to apply for a class bed. I will be reviewing applications and reaching out to applicants to schedule follow up meetings and answer any questions.

For those of us who are content within our comfort zones, professional change may seem daunting, so we don’t seek out new paths or even know that we need to. Sometimes, if we’re fortunate, an opportunity finds us – one that dares to whisk away the entanglements of risk-taking. Such was the case for me in early spring 2018. I was perusing Kingsborough Community College’s website in search of new career opportunities. What caught my eye first, though, was a colorful call-out promoting the CUNY TechWorks User Experience Design Program.

Tips on Being Successful in Kingsborough’s UX Design Immersive

Going through Kingsborough Community College’s CUNY TechWorks immersive User Experience (UX) Design program is a huge decision, especially if you’re a career changer like myself. For the last 10+ years I’ve been working in restaurants and bars but always had a passion for design. So taking the leap from making Mojitos to making Mockups was a huge decision for me. I decided to go all in, I had nothing to lose but everything to gain. The journey to becoming a UX Designer was not easy and I faced many challenges coming from a non design background. Here are a few tips that helped me succeed in my UX Design Immersive and keep your stress levels low.

KCC Urban Farm Volunteer Days

KCC students, faculty and staff are invited to join us this summer and dig into some farm work right on campus!

We are looking for volunteers to support us with general farm tasks this summer-fall. Volunteers are welcome to stop by anytime between 1-4pm (please be mindful of your availability and only come if you are done with class and/or work or during your break). We encourage volunteers to wear weather appropriate clothing, meaning: light comfortable clothes for the heat  and closed toe shoes (no sandals or heels). Remember to bring a water bottle and a hat.

This workshop is open to all KCC students, faculty and staff.  Please be mindful of your availability, and use your break or after you are done with work to join us.

Join us for this FREE workshop to learn more about one of our summer favorites: Tomatoes! We will demonstrate proper pruning and trellising techniques and troubleshoot some common pest and disease problems that may be present in our gardens.

News Release: Kingsborough Community College, National Grid Announce Natural Gas Technician Certificate Program

The program – Natural Gas Technician Certificate – is the first of its kind in the energy industry, and was created by National Grid to address advances in the energy industry and a projected increase in retirement-eligible workers at National Grid locations and across the energy industry. It is a 12-week program which introduces individuals to the gas industry and exposes them to the job tasks, work methods and safety practices utilized by various workforce positions in gas construction, maintenance and customer service. Successful completion of this Certificate guarantees an employment interview with National Grid. The training will take place at the National Grid Springfield Learning Center in Queens, NY and starts in February 2018. All applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a High School diploma or GED/TASC, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass an aptitude test and physical assessment.
