CCP is a US Department of Labor TAACCCT Round 1 grant program that has been wildly successful since we began running programs in 2011. Our marketing team was recently recognized for a successful marketing campaign that helped bring in under- and un-employed New Yorkers. Earlier this year, CCP was highlighted by Tom Hilliard at the Center for an Urban Future as a program that needs to be “scaled up” and have a “deeper coordination with city workforce, education and youth development agencies” to continue providing these much-needed services. At KCC, our Culinary Arts graduates have been led to great success even after leaving CCP.

Congratulations CUNY CareerPATH Marketing!

CUNY CareerPATH‘s marketing team, led by Christine Zagari-LoPorto at Kingsborough Community College, was just awarded the James C. Hall Program Award for Marketing from the Continuing Education Association of New York (CEANY)! This recognition highlights CCPs marketing efforts in print, online, and direct outreach. Utilizing methods that directly targeted populations who would benefit the most from our services (local neighborhood newspapers for out of work adults, young adults using social media, text notifications, local and regional job fairs, etc.), CCP far exceeded original enrollment outcome goals. This award recognizes the efforts of CUNY CareerPATH’s lead marketing team who collaborated with the CUNY Central Office and the other consortium colleges to develop innovative campaigns that helped CCP succeed.

The full award will be announced in early November at CEANY’s 2014 Annual Conference in Syracuse, NY.

CCP Sugar Whiz Winners at KCC

On April 2, 2014 Kingsborough Community College held its 2nd annual Sugar Whiz Competition where select Culinary Arts students were invited to present their own take on a macaron and plated dish combination to attendees. Attendees voted on best dishes and out of three available winning slots, two were CUNY CareerPATH graduates!

Daw’ud Lee and Giacomo Boncimino both came to CUNY CareerPATH looking to expand their knowledge in the Culinary Field. Though their experiences differed, both men shared the same passion. Upon successful completion of CCP, both immediately expressed interest in continuing their education in KCC’s culinary department and, facilitated by their CUNY CareerPATH educational adviser, they were able to enroll. With two semesters under their belts, Daw’ud and Giacomo are each making great strides in the culinary department and playing an active role in student life. Winning the Sugar Whiz competition is only one step in the many goals both Daw’ud and Giacomo will accomplish. CUNY CareerPath is very proud to have them as graduates and brand ambassadors,  We are sure this is not the last we will hear of them.

Community Health Workers

Community Health Worker jobs are growing in number, complexity and importance…

At 22,053,900 projected workers in 2020, the healthcare industry makes up the largest segment of the United States’ economy. Not just doctors and nurses, the healthcare industry also broadly encompasses the nonclinical, community and social service, and support positions that comprise 42% of the healthcare workforce.

The community health worker has taken on new importance as hospitals look to extend themselves and bring healthcare services to patients where they live. Among the occupations with the largest percentage increases across the country, office workers such as medical office specialists, office supervisors, and medical records technicians have seen their positions adapt and grow. And, a new position, often referred to as patient navigator or patient representative, has been created to facilitate smooth coordination of health services for patients.
